What is the Virtual Virgin Money London Marathon?

On Sunday 3 October 2021, the Virgin Money London Marathon is taking place – and this year an additional 50,000 runners will have the opportunity to be part of this iconic event by completing 26.2 miles virtually, at the same time as those taking part in London.

And for the first time ever, Launchpad has a total of ten charity places for the Virtual Virgin Money London Marathon up for grabs!

General entry has now sold out for the Virtual Virgin Money London Marathon and charity places are the only spots available – so don’t miss your chance to take part in the biggest marathon ever staged anywhere in the world.

How does the event work? 

Virtual runners are free to choose a marathon course, and you will have a full 24 hours on Sunday 3 October (from 00:00:00 to 23:59:59 BST) to complete the 26.2 miles.

How do I apply for a place?

To apply for a Launchpad place in the Virtual Virgin Money London Marathon, email fundraising@launchpadreading.org.uk and please let us know why you would like to run on behalf of Launchpad, and how you plan to fundraise for us.

Our team will let you know by Monday 12 of April if you have secured a spot – and we will then help you with registration, confirm your fundraising details, and provide you with resources to reach your target.

How much will I need to fundraise?

We are asking Team Launchpad virtual marathon runners to commit to raising a minimum of £150 – and Launchpad will cover the race registration fee.

How do we support members of Team Launchpad?

We will support you every step of the way on your marathon journey! We offer tips on training and lots of fundraising materials, and you’ll get a Launchpad t-shirt and goodies for taking part.

How will your fundraising help Launchpad?

At Launchpad, we have had to cancel or postpone almost all of our events over the last year and 2021 continues to be uncertain – and our fundraising has inevitably suffered.

The pandemic is continuing to leave homeless people extremely vulnerable and we are expecting to see many more in housing crisis, with increased job loss and evictions on the horizon as we come out of lockdown.

By taking on the Virtual Virgin Money London Marathon for Launchpad, you will be making all the difference to people who are homeless or at risk of losing their home in Reading – and at a time when our support is a lifeline to people in need.
