Swim 68
What is Swim 68?
Swim 68 is Launchpad’s brand new event especially for children and young people! We’re challenging anyone aged 8 to 16 years old to swim 68 lengths of a pool throughout June – all to raise vital funds for people who are homeless in Reading.
And we’d like your help to encourage your child or student to take part!
When and where is the challenge?
All swimmers have from 1 to 30 June 2022 to complete 68 lengths of a pool.
They can complete the lengths in any number of pools – at school, at a local leisure centre or as part of their swimming lessons – and the number of lengths in each swimming session can be organised however they’d like. E.g. participants could swim 17 lengths every week for four weeks.
When participants sign up, they will receive one free swimming session at a local pool to help them complete the challenge.
Why 68 lengths?
Every month, Launchpad supports 68 people in housing crisis to get back on their feet. So with every length your child or student swims, they are helping one homeless person in Reading.
How do I sign up and what does my child/student get in return?
Click the button at the bottom of this page to register your child or student for Swim 68. There is a £10 registration fee and you can request one free swim pass to use at one of three local leisure centres when you sign up. Participants will also receive an event pack in the post – which contains a Launchpad silicone swimming hat and a swim tracker poster to tick off the lengths as they go!
How much do swimmers need to fundraise?
We are asking each swimmer to raise a minimum of £150 – either by filling out sponsorship forms (which you’ll find in the event pack) or via JustGiving.
If they don’t manage to raise this amount, don’t worry – it’s only a target. Every bit of sponsorship swimmers are able to collect will help us to continue supporting local people in need.
How does Launchpad support people who are homeless?
Launchpad supports people who are homeless or at risk of losing their home in Reading in lots of different ways. We give rough sleepers a safe place to sleep in our supported housing and our teams also help anyone in the community who is worried about losing their home. Launchpad 135 is our work and life skills centre and it offers people who were homeless the opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence and get back into work with cooking classes, IT sessions and art therapy.
With your support, and the support of your child or student, we can continue helping 68 people in housing crisis a month.
